Gwen on Glee, Adele, and the flare-up Kesha

I don't know who's been in Gwyneth Paltrow's corner lately but they're turning the girl who was above everything into someone who's one of us. I watched her and Vince Gill get the last spot on the CMA's last wee, even over Sheryl Crowe, Marinda Lambert and Lotreeta Lynn and she did a good job. She wasn't Carrie Underwood power but I respected it. On Glee! this week besides many winning scenes including a Mary Todd Lincoln that still has me laughing she provided a great version of "Forget You" and a great Nowadays/Hot Honey Rag" and had me cheering her. I also received word from my peeps (yes I have peeps!!!!) that they liked her too and they always seem to find a way to judge our Gwenie. She's our Gwenie until a bad movie, interview or recent post of GOOP comes out and then she's back to She "Who once dated Brad Pitt but must not be named."

I give huge claps to Adele this week for her new song "Rolling in the Deep" which sounds as being one of the great bitter songs of the week if not of the year (depends on the mood.) Adele who believes that British soul singers of today should sing like the 70's black divas of yesteryear pours her soul and vocals into this song and gives it a primal sound not really associated to her previous styles. I believe her when she's belting "We could have had it all" and remember all those times too. Sorry that's for another time. If you get a chance check it out..........

I also heard the new Kesha stuff and even though I did have to bathe for an hour and a half afterwards (which happens whenever I listen to her music) I still liked it and replayed some of the songs over and over again. I still can't top listening to "Cannibal," or "C U Next Tuesday", or "We R Who We R". I have a feeling that she's going to be with us for a while or at least every six months and then after a few shots she'l be gone again.

Award Shows but really the Kelly Clarkson & Jennifer Hudson show.

Two performances this past week on television from former American Idol contestants made me have to say something about them. These of course came in two of my top 5 greatest voices ever to be on Idol. You know a list will be coming at some point, Academy and Grammy Award winning Jennifer Hudson and my Idol Goddess Grammy Award winning Kelly Clarkson.

This past Wednesday night the 44th Annual Country Music Awards had the annual televised production on ABC. It's odd that they treat it as charming Brad Paisley and if gay men spent the night dressing Barbie. I love me some Carrie Underwood and lately she's being getting fierce with her performances. I love remembering her always looking so robotic during Idol and now she doesn't let a production number or even a dress over power her. She also plays the game well. She looks great, if not a little plastic nowadays. I used to remember her big performance move where she'd bend her arm while she sang, that made her look you or probably your sisters (right!) Barbie doll with arms that bent. I always think it's funny that everyone forgets that Miranda Lambert is a reality show star but thought both her performances were good. I don't watch the men, except for Kid Rock and only because I think he's good at crafting a good pop song for people to be dancing around at festivals. I loved Taylor Swift's production number but thought the song was sad, dull but highlighted the two notes she has, though I felt it funny she had the same expression on her face that most of us did. I have come to the conclusion that Reba McEntire only listens to the top 40 for all her songs as she's now doing Beyonce's hit "If I Were a Boy." After this and her Grammy Nominated duet of the hit song "Because of You," where even she was successful enough to make Clarkson a back-up singer on her own song. I think she has excellent taste in music but think she could have gotten more into this song and performance to the point it makes me want to see a Kelly Clarkson, Fergie, or Pink touch it. One last thing is I honestly don't believe that Sugarland is playing with a full deck of cards but my eyes will never, never forget the image of Jennifer Nettles in a white body suite.

I have to talk about the performance of the night. Jason Aldean was debut a song of his album that on the red carpet he said his going to be his new single. Which is odd since I remember Kelly saying that the next single if her new album would be a duet. So maybe the rumored Daughtry deut is true? Sorry back to Adean. He said that when it came down to who they were going to try to get it came down to Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson. He starts the melchonly ballad pleading for his love and then Kelly Clarkson comes in singing a few bars, they duet holding their own and then she starts unleashing the power. They both go back into some lyrics that make me think that Faith and Tim would have turned this down 5 years ago and then both Jason and Kelly decided that who needs lyrics when you can belt the notes and that's when the beauty of this song is born!!! I like his voice but can tell that he's yelling to hold his own with her and that this is the top of strength. Ms. Clarkson is just tossing off these notes like nothing. It's like she can powerbelt and do her taxes in her head at the same time. She's not even at the top, struggling, or out of breath and I've heard her go higher and more dangerous then this before. As for her image which is my least favorite thing to talk about with her because the girl is a Pop Star, she's just the type that you would see hanging at the mall and that's normal. She just has this inhuman voice. I thought her hair looked cute, and she looked cute. I think the comeback is starting...........

Another powerbelter Jennifer Hudson performed on the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in Washington, D.C., honoring Tina Fey. I don't know why Jennifer was on but nowadays if your ever going to get anyone to do these songs together call Jennifer Hudson. The first part Jennifer has been working hard at looking amazing lately and this was no difference. This girl is doing everything she can to make sure that she will never be an Effie White and I still marvel at her class and dignity. She came out and sang this song with such fierce power and control and didn't trip one. She has all that power at her dispose and can toss it off like nothing. I also like that she's growing as a performer which is interesting and I wonder how many other formal Idols would do with more exposure? Enjoy.

P.S. As a side note I heard something in Entertainment Tonight that there might be a film version of the Pulitzer and Tony Award winning musical. "Next to Normal" a rock opera show about a family copying with someone who has a mental illness. I know it sounds bizarre but it amazing and contains some powerful music. I wouldn't be surprised if this ended up with John Cameron Mitchell if "Rabbit Hole" becomes a hit, which is could become a modest one. What about the trailer for "Rabbit Hole"? Do it not look amazing and seems to get me all the time, but I'm also the guy who cried during the trailers for "Convicition" (come on it's Hillary Swank) and "Precious" (When Mo Nique utters those words it always gets me every time.) As for the role of the mother for the film version of "Next to Normal" I'll proverbially cross my fingers that the uber talented Alice Ripley land the converted film role. Besides her Tony Nomination for the Broadway Musical "The Wild Party," the gay Connie & Carla, singing the classic "Stand By Me" and "Don't Dream it's Over in the film of "Cosi." She was supposed to play have played Bridget Jones but had to back out and then was told she was not too commercial enough to play Roxie Hart in the film of "Chicago." I have her bands "The Finish" album "Beautiful Awkward Pictures" and love the song "Look Up" on it. That hopefully will be enough for now.

Review of Rhinna's new solo disc LOUD but WHY?????

1. Sandm - Starts with a chorus of Come on and turns into the joys of being bad. I like that she switches from her high notes to chest without much problem. Which in the old days weren,'t as easy. I see this being a big single of the disc. She always comes across as trying to hard to be the hard rockin party girl and this is no different.

02-Whats my name (feat. drake) - I am SO the wrong person to review this music. What's a Drake? Rhinna's talent is when she finds the sound of a hook she's able to use it again without over dueing it She brings out a lot of the Caribbean expect but don't get from her into this song.

03-Cheers(drink to that) - This sounds like a sample of another song thrown until another B-Side song. It's okay but after 4 minutes you might have a hard time remembering it.

04-Fading - Starting out with a gorgeous intro that has sight hints to "Umbrella" While I don't know if this has the huge hits as her other alum I think this is the best song off the album.

05-Only Girl(in the World) - Okay I stand corrected this even though it started out as a Doritos commercial. I think this is where the music, vocal, and beat jump off the disk. It feels like she put everything into this recording.

06-California King Bed - Okay after the bombast of the last 5 songs its nice she starts out slow but grows into a rockier edge with a bit of a bite and edge to it.

07-Man down - Album filler. It feels like Rhinna wants us to over due hearing Jamaican accent.

08-Raining Men (feat. Nicki Minaj) It seems like you need someone to duet on a rap tack you call the flavor or the month Nicki Manaji Nicki;s gift is finding old songs and recording them with a current beat something that this does nothing for her. I'd say that this is the second filer song but I think I lost count.

09-Complicated - I actually even though she screams this mostly at the top of her lungs I think this is a lovely song. However with everything that has gone on should it be the wisest choice of song to include. Overall it woks and I hope she chooses it as a single.

10-Skin - This song highlights my issues with Rhinna. She wants to play that market between adult and child and on things like "Take a Bow" & "Distrubia" it works magic but this is by far two dult for her teen audience and to slight for her mature audience.

11-Love the way you lie (part II)(feat. Eminem) Hey if Alicia can do I with Empire State of Mine part II why can't she do it with this #1 smash. I think this is the most delicate her vocals have ever sounded even though it makes me feel like why bother. The ground was already covered once before.

Best Song on Album: Only Girl(in the World)Rating: C/C+

Cheryl Cole "3 Words"

In England they have an entire world of pop singers, Robbie Williams "Angel", Take That "Patience" (one of the best Pop songs EVER!!!!), Alexandra Burke, Pixie Lott, Girls Aloud, Will Young "Leave Right Now," Girls Aloud "The Promises," Florence and the Machine, Eliza Doolittle "Skinny Pants," and of course Leona Lewis. I hear this stuff and I think if nothing else this is better then the music played on U.S. radio stations. I don't know if its the hook that's the quick fix or they can construct a better song with les voice then anything else. If you ever get a chance PLEASE listen to the "original" British artists of the songs. I used to laugh at Will Young compared to Kelly Clarkson on the first season on Idol but given the right limits he's magic. Also sadly if you've heard Jessica Simpson "Angels" you know it's a great song but a serviable vocal even with her facial ticks no matter what she does she can't be better then Robbie Williams with his song. Also check out his other songs long with his other classics "Better Man." Okay Back to the subject of this post, I write this as someone who can't decribe how big she is in London. Her name is Cheryl Cole. She started out as Cheryl Tweedy a contestant on an all girl group version of a show based on Idol called "Popstars." She just made it in to a new girl group called "Girls Aloud" that would sell over millions of albums and span hits as "Sound of the Underground," "I'll Stand By You," "Walk this Way," and 2009 Best British Single "The Promise." SHE'S STUNNING (voted one of the most beautiful women in the world and she's hungery for FAME!!!! I heard she was supposed to be on the American version of X-Factor but she wasn't regonizedable to american audiences enough. PLEASE if you get a chance listen to either to "Girls Alound: "The Promises" or "Loving Kind" and you will be HOOKED!!!!! Cheryl got to know will.I.am while taking a hip hop class and talked to him about about having a urban meets pop solo disc out and with that came "3Words" that resulted in such massive British hits as; Fight for this world" (her 1st Number one.) "Parachute" and many others including the stunning

How to delude yourself that diet treats are Great!!!!

Year's ago someone I know very well was dating someone that she got to quite her job, move across country and thanked a few months later by breaking up with her and making her move the trip back to Chicago by herself, AND THESE ARE LESBIANS!!!!! Sweet girl and MUCH better then the emotionally vacant hot chick and the one who believed Buster Brown was someone you should emulate in hairstyle before she did. This girl went on a diet and looked AMAZING. The only problem is I remember she pulled out white chocolate meringue cookies and raved about them so much it sounded like brainwashing. You know when thin people get hooked on something. It's all these rave about.

Okay, I have to confess to being addicted to these daily cinnabon and strawberry and cheese pastries ay my local grocer that are giving me a reason to carry on. Seriously they are so good that if I ever had any social significance I would be photographed in one of those male muumuu (the sweat suit) looking the cream cheese over my fingers.

Anyway if you don't want to be me (those are words for someone else to live be) make a packet of s/c oatmeal and overdo the brown suger. Sure you miss out on the cream cheese but when you see me shoving my face into it you'll thank me later.
